Hey everyone. How have you been? I hope you are well. I am good and have gotten accustomed to wearing my mask now; we liked making a joke on how it causes you to exhibit corona symptoms, you know heavy breathing and shortness of breath. Lol. Now I wear it like a pro I can even run with it on. Have you been wearing yours? Its not just for you, wearing a mask will protect those around you as well because you never know.

Now you may have heard this said before, “None of us has been here before, none of us has pastored through a pandemic, none of us have been president through a pandemic, none of us have been experts at how to survive a pandemic (business related or other) etc.” Well my pastor has said that so many times now, the point has literally run home. Not that it is meant to excuse our oopsy moments but then again to make us be able to extend grace and room for people to learn and improve on what they are doing. I know, I know even I didn’t want to write about COVID-19 but it is unavoidable. I mean thats what we all sleep on and arise to, not that we are making it such a big deal, it already is but again lets not allow ourselves to be so afraid that we do not function.

Now that I am on it. I have never been a mother during a pandemic. I have also not had the priviledge of staying home and avoiding not leaving my house. Before you pull the whole, “Is it a matter of life or death that you have to leave your house?” allow me to say this, where as you can be home not everyone has that luxury. I am trying to be politically correct here so I will stop there. And yes I am not praying for a lockdown. Now to my parenting; I was anxious about many things: Will I contract it and bring it home to my children? What if we all get sick? What would happen then?

And on and on and it was so bad that when we (Lionel, Abishai and myself) got flu (disclaimer: we got flu before we had any corona confirmed cases in Mombasa) I thought we were exhibiting corona symptoms but thank God for no fever 😉. Like I said my list of anxieties has been even longer and I know that we are all grappling with different issues.

One of my greatest concerns about this season has not been people getting infected. Don’t get me wrong it is a serious matter but people are recovering from Covid-19. Just yesterday I was taking a look at Wikipedias report (not the best tool but hey its the first thing that  appears when you do a google search) which says 715 confirmed infected people. It also mentioned that 259 people had fully recovered which put the sick at approx . 456 people. Watu wanapona (people are getting healed)!!! Like I was saying, alot has happened since this pandemic begun to affect us all. People have lost their jobs, businesses stalled or gone under, learning institutions shut down, people have passed away (Covid-19 related or not) and people not being able to gather to comfort the bereaved and so much more. When you don’t have people around/ relationship or lack a sense of financial security meaning you can’t pay your rent, put food on the table or take care of other utility bills or even worse finding yourself locked in with abusive people etc. it can get really ugly really fast (depression, suicide to name but a few). The list of our anxieties may be endless and my worry right now may not be yours and it is definetely different from his or hers over there. None of us has the right answers and so people are doing what they can and hope that it goes well with them. Thats scary…

I heard from a very reliable source that that’s actually the problem with the gen-z’s. Uncertainity is the thing that they struggle with the most. They need to know what the end result will look like and if not, they get anxious. Unfortunately thats not how life works. I will dedicate another conversation just for that. But right now its all of us facing this dillema. For starters we don’t even know what the end of this pandemic looks like. Even better will things ever get back to the way they were? Will our businesses survive this? Will we still go back to the careers /paths we were on before? People keep talking about the new normal, what if we aren’t supposed to have normal? I don’t know, do you? We may not know the answers but I know who does.

He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name. (If you love star gazing then you get the splendour of the stars) Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit. Psalms 147:4‭-‬5 NIV I am talking about God, incase you hadn’t picked up on it yet…🤓

He created our inmost being; knit us together in our mother’s wombs. Our frame was not hidden from Him when we were made in the secret place, when we were woven together in the depths of the earth. HIS eyes saw our unformed bodies (like we see the foetus in 3D today); all the days ordained for us were written in Gods’ book before one of them came to be. Paraphrased from Psalms 139:13‭, 15 and 16 NIV. HE, my friends is the one we should run to with all the questions, worries, anxieties we have. And when we have done this we need to remember that He is the God who hears us and answers our prayers. Which means He will respond and when He does we need to be ready to ACT upon what He tells us. I believe I have spoken about this countless times before and so allow me not get into it right now. God said to a friend of mine the other day that

When we pray, we need to remember that 6hrs later things, situations or circumstances are not as they were when we prayed 6hrs ago.

Do you know how profound that is? We usually pray about things and even in our not seizing to pray, we need to realize that every time we commit the issue to God, He had started working it out and its better than it was when you started. I said quite a mouthful but I hope you did get me. That said, God laid this word on my heart and I felt the need to share it with you.

On the day the tabernacle, the tent of the covenant law, was set up, the cloud covered it. From evening till morning the cloud above the tabernacle looked like fire. That is how it continued to be; the cloud covered it, and at night it looked like fire. Whenever the cloud lifted from above the tent, the Israelites set out; wherever the cloud settled, the Israelites encamped. At the Lord ’s command the Israelites set out, and at his command they encamped. As long as the cloud stayed over the tabernacle, they remained in camp. When the cloud remained over the tabernacle a long time, the Israelites obeyed the Lord ’s order and did not set out. Sometimes the cloud was over the tabernacle only a few days; at the Lord ’s command they would encamp, and then at his command they would set out. Sometimes the cloud stayed only from evening till morning, and when it lifted in the morning, they set out. Whether by day or by night, whenever the cloud lifted, they set out. Whether the cloud stayed over the tabernacle for two days or a month or a year, the Israelites would remain in camp and not set out; but when it lifted, they would set out. At the Lord ’s command they encamped, and at the Lord ’s command they set out. They obeyed the Lord ’s order, in accordance with his command through Moses. Numbers 9:15‭-‬23 NIV I couldn’t help but notice how many times the author of Numbers repeats encamp and set out in this portion of scripture. Why this scripture? You may be familiar with the story of the Israelites and how they crossed the desert. God was their guide leading them as a cloud by day (sheilding them from the sun) and a pillar of fire by night: might I add that while they were being pursued there was an angel guarding them at the back as well. Mungu ndio alikuwa wa kusema (It was God who had a say/ a final say). I started earlier by bringing us to the place of understanding that none of us has answers but God. There are so many voices out here right now but only His voice will sustain you in this season we find ourselves. To the church, now is the time to hacken your ear that you may hear what God is saying. You cannot afford to leave the listening to pastors, apostles and prophets only. They may have a word for the corporate body but what of that which concerns you alone?

Allow me to share with you something that I have kept encouraging myself with. God didn’t just seat back and let us get hit by this season we are in… He prepared us by letting us in on 7 things that would happen in 2020.

7 things

Have this things come to pass, pretty much. I mean we have all experienced major disruptions to how we live, work, trade and so on and so forth and CHANGE has never been a thing we take very well. That said the only thing that can bring you sanity is being like the sons of Issaachar who the Bible says they understood the times and what they needed to do. We have the grace to ask God and not only get direction but He goes with you… We just need to trust.

God says that He… is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. Psalm 119:105. I know the word used in that scripture of the Bible is ‘word’ but we may know that the word is Jesus and the word is God. How??? Well, John 1:1 NIV In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. What God was saying to me is if I allow Him to lead me, I will be able to go through this season from a place of rest and not distress. Would you like that too? I know I want that and need that. There are many times that we are rushed or too slow to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. Yes our God is gracious but lets remember that our peace of mind, survival and service to Him greatly depends on our trust in Him and obedience. To “FAITH IT” is to walk in the things that God leads and directs us to do even when it looks foolish or unwise. Those are going to be there ie. you feel prompted to share the little (little in your head) food you have with someone else instead of stocking up. Its foolish because human knowledge and understansing is to stock up. However, God did say for the Israelites are to pick just enough manna for themselves. Anyone who picked it in excess had to deal with expired food and might I add like my wise friend said do we not pray in the Lords Prayer, ” and give us this day our DAILY bread?” God who provided that which He prompts you to share will bring even more and sustain you. To Faith it, is to start that business He prompts you to even though businesses are struggling to stay alive. You know become like pro surfers and know which wave to take and when because if and when God said it, lets remember that HE is God and if He said it, it won’t fail. What I am saying is, His sheep hear His voice and because He is the GOOD Shepherd we can trust HIM. May the LORD richly bless you and keep you. Till next time, remember to comment (I value your feedback) like, share or repost.

PRAYER: Dear LORD, I commit my reader to you and I ask that they will indeed hear you lead them and have the boldness and courage to walk in faith in Jesus name. AMEN.
